Who Are the Judges In Rutherford County And What Is the Process?
If it is necessary for us to file a lawsuit on your behalf, Rutherford County is part of the 16th Judicial District of Tennessee, which also includes Cannon County. For the 2010- 2011 reporting period, 479 tort cases (claims involving personal injury or wrongful death) were filed in Rutherford County, Tennessee. Only 20 cases were resolved by trial - 9 of them by jury trial and 11 by non-jury trial. The injured party received compensation in 5 of the cases. Damages were awarded in 5 of the trials. The total damages awarded were $365,289.00 for an average verdict of $73,058.00. For the 2011-2012 reporting period, there were 432 tort cases filed in Rutherford County and 23 cases went to trial. Compensation was awarded to the injured party in 6 of the trials. The total damages awarded in the 6 trials was $209,662.00 for an average verdict of $34,944.00. In 2012-2013, there were 420 tort cases filed in Rutherford County and 26 tort cases that went to trial. Of those 26 cases, the injured party only won 8 of them. The average award was $42,633.00. For the 2013-2014 reporting period, 392 tort cases were filed in Rutherford County and 15 went to trial. Of those 15 cases tried, the injured party won only 5 of them. The average award was $206,827.00. In 2014-2015, 454 tort cases were filed in Rutherford County. Nine tort cases went to trial and the injured victim won 5 of those trials. The average award was substantially lower than 2013-2014 at $109,283.00. During 2015-2016, there were 502 tort cases filed in Rutherford County. Twelve of those cases went to trial, and 4 of those injury victims were awarded damages of $438,639 on average. For 2016-2017, 493 injury or death cases were filed and 12 went to trial (6 jury and 6 non-jury). Of those 12 trials, only 2 resulted in a verdict for the injury victim. One verdict was less than $100,000 and the other was greater than $1 million. During 2017-2018, there was large drop in the number of cases filed- only 177 injury or death cases. 11 cases were tried that year, all of them non-jury, and the injury victims lost all 11 trials. Last year, there was another large drop in the number of cases - only 22 injury or death cases were filed. Eight tort cases were tried and the injury victims won 5 of them. The average verdict was $119,546. The last year referenced for this data is the 2018-2019 reporting period.
