For 22 years, Tennessee Justice Center has fought to obtain basic necessities such as nutrition and healthcare for children with special needs, for older adults and their caregivers, for people with disabilities or special needs. Healthcare

Tennessee Justice Center has a multitude of programs and initiatives related ot healthcare. First, the Tennessee Justice Center is committed to enroll every eligible Tennessee child in Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). In addition, they represent families who have been denied medical services under these and other programs. Second, Tennessee Justice Center has established a Student Ambassador Program to help Tennessee high school students understand how to navigate the health care insurance process and to be capable advocates for themselves and others. Third, Tennessee Justice Center works with the Martha O’Bryan Center to access Medicaid to (1) improve health care, (2) fight adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and (3) correct racial disparities in health care outcomes. Fourth, the Tennessee Justice Center funds, via the Warfield Fellowship, funds a lawyer to serve low-income Tennessee adults and children with disabilities. Fifth, the Bring It Home Campaign seek to persuade policymakers of the importance of obtaining and using all federal health care funding.

Nutrition

Tennessee Justice Center works diligently to educate legislators at the state and federal level about the importance of nutrition programs. The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), which is our country’s biggest program to provide food to hungry Americans. Currently, 1 in 6 Tennesseans rely on SNAP to help them cover the gaps in their food budget. Tennessee Justice Center also supports the National School Breakfast Program and many other initiatives to make sure Tennessee children and families don’t go hungry.
